DWPC President Connie Nelon's Closing Remarks at the Equality Luncheon
There are so many people to thank today.
- All of you, who bought tickets and came out to be with us.
- All the people who planned, organized, cooked, and served us.
- All of you who donated items to sell or auction, who bid on auction items, and who purchased items for sale.
I’ve not mentioned this before, but there are seven people in this room, who donate monthly toward our DWPC sustaining fund. You know who you are. Thank you! These monies provide the funds that we use to put on events such as this - so that every dollar we fundraise will go directly to the candidates.
I’d also like to thank Therese Sullivan for providing us this lovely space. By having our meeting here - for free - we can put more money to work getting our Democratic candidates elected.
Thank you to the five ladies and one gentleman from Sampson County who drove all this way to meet us and see what Pender is doing out here on the coast. By making connections with our sister counties - we are stronger across the region. When they hold events, we will get a group of DWPC members to go and support them in Sampson.
And a big thank you to Justice Earls, and our local Municipal Election candidates Ms Rodriquez de Miranda, Ms Jacobs, and Ms McDuffie, who spoke to us today. These brace women are putting themselves out there and we promise to do everything we can to get them elected.
Even with everything you’re all doing, there is still more to be done. And we need you to do what you can.
-if you have time, volunteer
-if you have money, donate
- DWPC needs a Fundraising Chair, which is a position on the Board.
- Pender County will need Democratic Poll Workers next year. And that’s a paid position
- consider getting active in your precinct. We still need some Precinct Chairs
- work for a candidate
- join us for one of the Advocacy or Activism events that Annis and Nancy talked about
- come out with us to NAACP events or League of Women Voter meetings
- Register for Mobilize and sign up for an event. There are two in Pender County coming up in September. NAACP is hosting a PBS documentary about the Wilmington Coup on September 6th with Justice Allison Riggs as the guest speaker and we’d like to fill the room. Also, the Fact Checking event on 9/14 is on Mobilize.
- sign up for 5 Calls and reach out to our elected officials
Everyone can do something, and together WE WILL MAKE DIFFERENCE!
Have a great day everyone!
Connie Nelson - DWPC President
